Business Central 28 shipped with the 2026 release wave 1 in April 2026. The wave brought new AI agents, including the new Expense Agent alongside more mature Payables and Sales Order agents, deeper Copilot integration, modernised reporting, and a set of improvements for administrators.
Microsoft ships Business Central on a predictable schedule, and the same three rules apply every year:

Twice a year through the major release waves in April and October, plus minor updates roughly every month in between. Online tenants update automatically, within a window administrators set.
To a degree. Administrators schedule when the update applies within the allowed update window, but on Business Central online an update cannot be skipped indefinitely.
