Business Central 2026 release wave 2, version 29 of the product, starts rolling out in October 2026. Microsoft has not yet published the detailed feature-by-feature release plan, so this page sticks to what is known: the confirmed timeline, the direction Microsoft has announced, and how to prepare. We will update it as the plan, early access and general availability land.

Timeline: when BC 29 ships

The cadence follows Microsoft's familiar six-month wave pattern:

• Early access around September 2026. Preview environments typically open about a month before general availability, so you can test BC 29 against your own setup.
• General availability from October 2026. The wave officially starts shipping to production environments.
• Features delivered through March 2027. Capabilities arrive across the wave, and online tenants update automatically within the update windows your admin sets.

What Microsoft has signaled so far

One thing first: Microsoft has not published the full release plan for 2026 wave 2 yet. What follows is based on the direction Microsoft has announced and on early previews, not on a confirmed feature list. We will revise this section as soon as the plan is out.

• More capable Copilot agents. The announced direction points to AI agents that handle more of a task end to end, building on the agent family introduced in recent waves.
• Predictive sales opportunity assessment. Early previews suggest AI-assisted scoring of sales opportunities to help teams prioritize.
• Supply chain and inventory enhancements. Continued investment in supply chain and inventory management is part of the announced direction.
• Strengthened global compliance. The announced direction includes continued expansion of e-invoicing, tax and regulatory coverage across countries.

The pattern across recent waves is consistent: fewer flashy new modules, more work on making AI and core finance capability trustworthy, native and automated. There is little reason to expect wave 2 to break that pattern.

The trajectory: what wave 1 already shipped

The best way to read wave 2 is to look at what wave 1 delivered: Microsoft is building out a family of single-task agents, each owning one workflow.

• The Payables Agent matured: it picks up vendor invoices from a mailbox and turns them into draft purchase invoices.
• The Sales Order Agent matured: it reads customer emails and drafts sales orders for review.
• The Expense Agent arrived, new in 2026, handling employee expenses, alongside the Agent Designer for building custom agents.

What it means for finance teams

The practical takeaway: enable the native agents that fit your processes as they reach general availability: they improve with every wave and are worth using where they fit. Two things to plan for: autonomous agents are billed on Microsoft AI consumption (base Copilot is included in the BC license) and they are available online only. And keep governance ahead of rollout: decide who reviews and approves what each agent drafts before you switch it on.
