Business Central's built-in report builder for P&L, balance sheet, and other G/L statements, combining reusable row and column definitions.
Financial Reports, called Account Schedules until the rename in the 2022 release wave 2, are Business Central's built-in builder for the income statement, balance sheet, and other statements based on the general ledger. A financial report is the combination of a row definition and a column definition, and both are reusable across reports.
The row definition selects and arranges G/L accounts: rows can total posting accounts or account ranges, compute formulas over other rows, and filter by dimensions, so a P&L by department or a balance sheet by business unit needs no extra accounts. The column definition controls what each column shows: net change or balance at date, actuals or budget figures, and comparison periods through date formulas, for example the same month last year.
You view a report in the financial report overview with date and dimension filters, drill down from any amount to the underlying G/L entries, export to Excel, or print. The demo definitions that ship with BC are a reasonable starting point to copy and adapt rather than building from scratch.
For quick ad hoc questions between reporting runs, the Zentriq Agent can query G/L figures directly in chat; financial reports remain the tool for structured, repeatable statements.
